SurrealDB is on the lookout for an experienced Chief Security Officer (CSO) to spearhead our security initiatives. This crucial role involves leading the development and implementation of security strategies that safeguard our cutting-edge database technologies. Whether you're based in London or prefer to work remotely, you'll play a key role in ensuring the highest standards of security for SurrealDB Cloud. Your focus will be on managing risks, ensuring compliance, and maintaining the integrity and confidentiality of data across our platform.

What you will do:

develop, implement, and monitor a strategic, comprehensive enterprise information security and IT risk management programme
lead and manage SurrealDB's security team
work directly with the business and technology teams to facilitate IT and security risk assessment and risk management processes
identify, evaluate, and report on information security risks in a manner that meets compliance and regulatory requirements
create and manage a unified and flexible control framework to integrate and normalise the wide variety and ever-changing requirements resulting from global laws, standards, and regulations
lead the design and operation of related compliance monitoring and improvement activities to ensure compliance with internal security policies and applicable laws and regulations
develop and enhance an information security management framework
understand and interact with related disciplines through committees to ensure the consistent application of policies and standards across all technology projects, systems, and services
be prepared to engage with business stakeholders across the company to address risk management concerns
assist with the overall business technology planning, providing a current knowledge and future vision of technology and systems
embrace the role of manager while being prepared to roll your sleeves up and join the SurrealDB team.

About you:

proven experience as a Chief Security Officer or similar role in a tech-focused company
in-depth knowledge of data protection and cybersecurity frameworks, risk management methodologies, and regulatory compliance
strong technical background in security-related hardware and software
experience in managing information security teams and developing security programs
excellent knowledge of security protocols and incident response procedures
strong leadership and decision-making skills
excellent communication and presentation skills
ability to work effectively with various levels of the organisation, from technical teams to executive management
familiarity with cloud security and database technologies
flexibility and adaptability to work in a rapidly changing environment, with a willingness to work with a remote and global team.
