As the Head of People, you'll play a pivotal role in shaping the foundation of SurrealDB by championing our most valuable asset: our people. You'll be our first People hire and will spearhead all aspects of human resources, from talent acquisition and employee development to fostering a vibrant company culture aligned with our core values. What you will do:

  • developing and implementing SurrealDB’s People strategy

  • implementing and managing SurrealDB’s People tech stack

  • overseeing and managing all recruitment activities, including:

    - SurrealDB’s employer value proposition

    - hiring roadmap

    - external recruiters and agencies

    - hiring and onboarding process

  • refresh and embed SurrealDB’s performance management process, including:

    - SurrealDB’s capability models/skills matrices for each function

    - coaching and feedback

    - compensation and benefits administration, including benchmarking and employee perks

    - annual review process

  • driving employee engagement and retention efforts

  • encouraging learning and development across all functions

  • defining and owning company policies and practices

  • working to differentiate and strengthen SurrealDB’s company culture

  • championing diversity, equity and inclusion to cultivate a workplace culture that values and celebrates differences

  • staying informed about People trends, best practices, and emerging technologies to continuously enhance SurrealDB’s people strategies.

About you:

  • you have a breadth and depth of experience across the People agenda – from HR, to recruiting, operations and performance management, to culture and L&D

  • 8+ years of HR experience in an organisation renowned for its people development in the tech sector. SaaS/database/cloud experience is a bonus

  • strong knowledge of HR best practices, employment laws, and regulations

  • excellent communication, interpersonal, and conflict resolution skills

  • strategic mindset with the ability to execute and operate in the grey

  • proficiency in HRIS and other relevant best-in-class people tech stack

  • proven experience:

    - working in start-up or scale-up environments, where you have led and managed, as well as having had to roll your sleeves up and execute

    - scaling a company and people function from the UK into the US, as well 

  • ability to rapidly build trust-based relationships.
